Purple Eyed Seedling is said to have originated more than twenty years ago in the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. This version is a very pretty oval potato with bright patches of purple rather like Kestrel but with pale yellow flesh. This potato has been used on six occasions to win the British Potato Championship. It became so infected with virus that he could no longer produce large enough tubers for exhibition and was placed into the SASA potato bank and cleaned of all virus before this new strain could be released.
