CURLY KALE

Brassica oleraces 'Westland Autumn' is extremely hardy and easy to grow, producing nutrious leaves which are rich in iron and vitamins A, C & E. Excellent winter hardiness, it is the ideal winter to spring vegetable. Best used in soups and stir-fries. Hardy Annual.

Exposure: Full sun

Harvest: September to December

Garden Uses: Great for vegetable patch, beds & borders.

Benefits: Full of essential vitamins and antioxidants.


GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:

Starting Indoors - March-May

Sow seeds thinly 1cm deep in trays of moist compost, be careful not to over-water. When the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin to 15cm apart. When the plants are 10-15cm high transplant outside after all chance of frost has passed leaving 45cm between plants.


Sowing Outdoors - April-June

Row width: 45cm

Sow seeds 1.5cm deep direct in growing bed in rows 15cm apart. Keep the soil moist, and be careful not to over-water. When large enough to handle thin to 45cm apart. Pick the leaves when they are young and tender, by removing a few at a time starting at the crown of the plant. Pick off the yellow leaves and ensure the area is kept weed free.
