Jamieson Brothers® Chives Herb Seeds


CHIVES

Allium schoenoprasum, this is one of the most popular herbs and is extremely easy to grow. The leaves have a tasty, mild flavour which are great in omelettes, soups, salads and cheese dishes. The pink decorative flowers are also edible. Perennial.

Exposure: Full sun to partial shade

Harvest: Mid to Late Spring

Garden Uses: Great for containers & borders; also good for planting in greenhouse or at home.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS:

Starting Indoors - All year round

Sow seeds 0.5cm deep in trays of moist compost, be careful not to over-water. Store in a warm place at an approx. temperature of 13-16°c. When the seedlings are strong enough to handle they can be transplanted into bigger pots or trays. Do not overcrowd the plants and keep in a warm, light position. Once all chance of frost has passed the plants can be transplanted direct into your desired location. Harden off first. Alternatively, for all year round supply sow indoors in pots.


Sowing Outdoors - March-April

Row width 15cm. Sow seeds 1.5cm deep direct in growing bed. Keep the soil moist, and be careful not to over-water. When large enough to handle thin to 15cm. Pick leaves as required. Flowers following Spring.
